WAPA said Phase 2 Wärtsilä engine commissioning tests advanced on St. Thomas
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on October 28, 2024, that commissioning tests for the Phase 2 Wärtsilä engines on St. Thomas had advanced.
WAPA said the Emergency Shutdown Test and Soft Start Test had been completed. The authority said several feeders in the St. Thomas-St. John district experienced brief outages on October 27, 2024, between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m., and that no customer was without power for more than two hours.
WAPA said LPG emissions testing and other commissioning work would continue through November 2024. The authority said the new units were designed to operate primarily on propane.
