WAPA reports restoration progress after Tropical Storm Ernesto outages

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on Aug. 15, 2024, that it had restored electricity to 8,630 customers on St. Thomas, 11,862 on St. Croix and 2,297 on St. John by the end of the first day of restoration work following Tropical Storm Ernesto.

WAPA said it was working with local utility partners to supplement crews and with the Department of Public Works to clear large trees and debris in isolated areas.

The authority said crews on Aug. 15, 2024, would prioritize feeders 9C, 8B, 7B, 6B, 7A in part, and Frenchtown on St. Thomas; 7E and part of 9E on St. John; and 8B, 7B, 9B, 6A, 6B and part of 10B on St. Croix.

WAPA said its call center opened at 9 a.m. on Aug. 15, 2024, and its business offices opened at noon the same day.
