Anguilla Landfill fire on St. Croix was extinguished Oct. 21, VIWMA said

A fire at the Anguilla Landfill on St. Croix that began on October 20, 2024, and continued into October 21 was extinguished at about 2 p.m. on October 21, according to the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority.

VI Fire and Emergency Medical Services, the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority and the landfill operator worked together to put out the fire, the authority said.

The authority said the response also involved the Office of the Governor, the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency, the Health Department, the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, the Virgin Islands Port Authority and the Virgin Islands National Guard.

The Anguilla Landfill was scheduled to open on a delayed schedule on October 22, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
