Bryan issues July proclamations for Disability Pride Month, recreation month and Juan Francisco Luis Day
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued several July proclamations in the U.S. Virgin Islands, including designating July as Disability Pride Month and National Sports, Parks, and Recreation Month.
The Disability Pride Month proclamation coincided with the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which the proclamation described as a civil-rights law for people with disabilities.
Bryan also proclaimed Wednesday, July 10, 2024, as Juan Francisco Luis Day in the territory. The proclamation commemorated former Gov. Juan Francisco Luis, who assumed office on Jan. 2, 1978, after the death of Gov. Cyril Emmanuel King and later became the third elected governor of the Virgin Islands.
In addition, Bryan declared French Heritage Week from July 7 through July 14, 2024, to recognize the contributions of French people and people of French descent in the territory.
