Bryan nominates Jennifer Matarangas King as tourism commissioner
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. nominated Jennifer Matarangas King to serve as commissioner of the Virgin Islands Department of Tourism, Government House said on July 28, 2025.
Matarangas King, a St. Croix native, worked in communications and public affairs and spent 26 years at Viya and its predecessor companies in roles including public relations, customer service, corporate planning and operations, according to Government House.
She previously served as press secretary to former Gov. Roy Schneider and as public relations director for then-Sen. Vargrave Richards, vice president of the 22nd Legislature. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Smith College and a master’s degree in organizational communication from Howard University, where she also pursued doctoral studies.
Government House said Bryan planned to submit the nomination to the 36th Legislature for confirmation.
Bryan also said outgoing Tourism Commissioner Joe Boschulte would remain with the department for a brief period to assist with the transition.
