Bryan administration reopened VI Slice homeownership program after adding $2 million

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. announced on Jan. 7, 2026, that the VI Slice Moderate-Income Homeownership Program had reopened to new applicants after an additional $2 million was committed to the program.

The program is administered by the Virgin Islands Economic Development Authority in partnership with the Office of the Governor and the Office of Disaster Recovery. It was created to help moderate-income first-time homebuyers purchase, renovate or build a home.

Government House said the application portal had been temporarily closed in late 2025 after the program's initial grant funding was fully used. With the additional funding, the portal reopened.

The program was first announced in October 2022 and began accepting applications in January 2023. Government House said it had assisted more than 68 Virgin Islands families since its launch, with grants of up to $200,000 for home purchase, rehabilitation and construction.

The program is funded through the American Rescue Plan Act and provides secondary gap financing to cover the difference between a primary lender's approved amount and the amount needed to complete a home purchase. The grant period ends on Dec. 31, 2026.

According to Government House, eligible first-time homebuyers referred by participating mortgage lenders may receive up to $200,000 for home purchase with rehabilitation, up to $200,000 for home construction, and up to $100,000 for down payment and closing costs, with a maximum aggregate award of $200,000.
