Bryan issues statement after arrests in alleged Medicaid fraud scheme

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a statement on January 28, 2026, after authorities announced arrests in an alleged Medicaid fraud scheme involving people connected to the Virgin Islands Department of Human Services, members of the medical community and program recipients.

In the statement, Bryan said he had "zero tolerance for corruption, self dealing, or anyone using public office or public programs for private gain."

He also said his administration would support lawful efforts to uncover wrongdoing, recover misused funds and hold accountable anyone who violated the public trust.

Bryan said Department of Human Services Commissioner Averil George had cooperated with investigators and the Justice Department's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
