The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on December 15, 2025, that staff had begun a series of school presentations about the Alva C. McFarlane Scholarship Program, which supports students pursuing engineering and technical education.

According to WAPA, representatives from its human resources and communications teams spoke with 30 juniors and seniors at St. Croix Central High School on December 9, 22 seniors at The Good Hope Country Day School on December 10, and eight seniors at Ivanna Eudora Kean High School on December 11.

WAPA said the presentations outlined bachelor’s and technical degree scholarship awards of up to $80,000 and encouraged eligible students to apply. The authority said additional school visits were planned later in December 2025 and in January 2026 ahead of the application deadline.

The authority said the scholarship program included awards for graduating high school seniors, college freshmen and sophomores, University of the Virgin Islands students enrolled in or planning to enroll in the five-year engineering program, students pursuing associate degrees in electrical engineering technology, electronics engineering or related fields, and people planning to attend trade school or seek technical certification.
