Virgin Islands acquires 2,469 acres at Maroon Ridge and Annaly Bay for park expansion

The Virgin Islands government and the Department of Planning and Natural Resources completed a $17.5 million land purchase on St. Croix on Aug. 15, 2025, acquiring 2,469 acres at Maroon Ridge and Annaly Bay for the Territorial Parks System.

Government House said the purchase was funded through the U.S. Department of Commerce and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration under the Inflation Reduction Act.

The property was to be managed by DPNR’s Division of Territorial Parks and Protected Areas.

Government House said the acquisition was made under Legislative Act 8609, which directs the government to identify and conserve historically and culturally significant sites.
