Bryan statement said Kruz Schembri became first Virgin Islander to win Pan Am gold

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said in a statement published Aug. 12, 2025, that fencer Kruz Schembri won a gold medal at the Junior Pan American Games, which the administration described as the first Pan Am gold medal by a Virgin Islander.

The statement said Schembri's victory marked a milestone for the U.S. Virgin Islands and thanked his coaches, his stepfather Marvin McCord, his mother Carolynn McCord of St. Croix, and others who supported him.

The statement also said Schembri was headed to Notre Dame.
