Anguilla Landfill closed on Oct. 25 after flare-up

The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority said the Anguilla Landfill on St. Croix was temporarily closed on Oct. 25, 2024, because of an unexpected flare-up.

The authority said the Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Medical Service, VIWMA and the landfill’s contracted team were working to control and extinguish the fire.

Residents in the area were urged to use caution and avoid smoke coming from the site.
