Human Services Department said SNAP gross income limit rose to 175% of federal poverty guidelines

At a Government House briefing on St. Croix on October 15, 2024, Human Services Commissioner Averil George said the U.S. Virgin Islands raised the gross income threshold for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits from 130% to 175% of the federal poverty guidelines, effective October 1, 2024.

George said the change would allow more households to qualify for food assistance and urged residents to review their eligibility under the revised guidelines.

She also announced the opening of the St. John Multipurpose Center on October 28, 2024. According to George, the Cruz Bay facility was set to provide services including SNAP, Medicaid and child-care assistance.

George said the Region II Head Start Conference was scheduled for St. Thomas from October 28 through October 30, 2024, and that a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Cruz Bay Head Start was planned for November 6, 2024, at 10 a.m. in Cruz Bay.
