Government House outlines Uber Soca Cruise events and Frederiksted traffic changes for Oct. 24

Government House said on October 21 that the Uber Soca Cruise was scheduled to dock in Frederiksted, St. Croix, at 7 a.m. on October 24.

At a weekly briefing on St. Croix, Ian Turnbull, director of the Department of Tourism’s Division of Festivals, said a zombie-themed J’ouvert with water, paint, powder and foam was planned from 7 a.m. to noon. A beach party at Dorsch Beach was scheduled to follow from noon to 5 p.m., with performers including Pumpa, DJ Avalanche and Adam-O.

VIPD Traffic Commander Arthur Joseph said traffic would be altered on October 24 in and around Frederiksted. The event route was set to include King Street, Strand Street, Fisher Street and Veterans Shore Drive, and parking restrictions were expected in town.

Also at the briefing, VITEMA Director Daryl Jaschen said there were no intense weather threats to the U.S. Virgin Islands over the following seven days. He said Tropical Storm Oscar had reached eastern Cuba on October 21 and that a heat advisory remained in effect from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John, with a high risk of rip currents for north-facing beaches on St. Thomas and St. John.

Government House also said a press conference was scheduled for October 23 to announce a maritime transportation partnership involving St. Croix, and that Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. and Virgin Islands Economic Development Authority Chief Executive Officer Wayne Biggs were scheduled to hold a South Shore Trade Zone investor roundtable and press conference on October 24.
