The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said it conducted outreach events on St. Croix and St. Thomas in January 2026 to promote the Alva McFarlane Scholarship Program ahead of the January 31, 2026 application deadline.
WAPA said its Human Resources and Communications teams visited the St. Croix Adult Education School on January 15, 2026, where they met with 15 adult learners to discuss the application process, eligibility requirements and workforce opportunities.
Later that day, WAPA representatives spoke with about 120 high school seniors and parents during Senior Parent Night at Charlotte Amalie High School on St. Thomas, according to the authority. WAPA said the presentation covered scholarship opportunities, career options, and training and internship experiences in engineering and technical fields.
On January 22, 2026, WAPA said representatives also made a second visit to St. Croix Central High School, where they met with 35 students as the deadline approached.
According to WAPA, the scholarship program offers up to $30,000 for students pursuing an associate degree, trade school training or technical certification in electrical engineering technology, electronics engineering or related fields. The authority said a master's degree award of up to $60,000 was available to students enrolled in an accredited graduate engineering program or to applicants who already held a bachelor's degree in engineering.
