WAPA marked commissioning of Hogensborg Solar Farm on St. Croix
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said it held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 13, 2025, to mark the commissioning of the Hogensborg Solar Farm in Estate Hogensborg on St. Croix.
WAPA said the project was developed by VIElectron and owned by VIRAPC. The authority described it as the third solar installation on St. Croix and the largest utility-scale solar project in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
According to WAPA, the facility includes 48,210 solar panels and can produce up to 22.4 megawatts of power. The authority said excess energy is stored in battery systems designed by Honeywell.
WAPA said the project was the fourth utility-scale renewable energy project it had facilitated. The authority also said development had begun on the Fortuna Solar Farm on St. Thomas, which it said was scheduled for completion in late 2026 and would include 94,440 panels and a 25-megawatt battery storage system.
