Government House says $5.1 million in additional tax refunds released
Government House said on Aug. 5 that more than $5.1 million in income tax refunds had been released to 1,260 taxpayers who filed before June 27, 2022.
The announcement was made during the weekly Government House briefing on St. Croix by Communications Director Richard Motta. He said the latest refunds were in addition to $5 million in tax refunds released on July 29.
During the briefing, Motta also said Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. visited several schools on Aug. 5, the first day of school, and he congratulated Virgin Islander Ian Barrows of St. Thomas for winning a bronze medal in sailing for Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Motta also recognized five athletes representing Team ISV at the Paris Games: Nicholas D’Amour in archery, Eduardo Garcia in the marathon, Kruz Schembri in fencing, Natalia Kuipers in swimming and Maximillian Wilson in swimming.
Police Chief Sean Santos Sr. said the Virgin Islands Police Department would continue traffic enforcement focused on overly tinted windows, unregistered vehicles, child occupancy protections and illegal ATVs being driven on roadways.
VITEMA Director Daryl Jaschen said sandbag distribution under Operation Blue Skies had been completed and that the agency was monitoring National Weather Service forecasts for potential storms. He also said Sahara dust was expected to affect the territory through the end of the week.
