Bryan announces purchase of Nana Baby Home facility on St. Thomas
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said on Sept. 15, 2025, that the Virgin Islands government had purchased the Nana Baby Home facility on St. Thomas.
Bryan made the announcement during the weekly Government House press briefing. The administration said the purchase would secure the future of the facility, which has housed infants and toddlers for more than 40 years.
At the same briefing, Bryan said the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority Governing Board had appointed Hannibal Michael Ware as the authority’s executive director. He also thanked Darryl Griffith for serving in the leadership role during the transition.
Bryan also said provisions proposed in the Fiscal Year 2026 budget, including a 30% increase to the minimum government salary, a 3% increase in employer contributions to the Government Employees Retirement System and higher health-insurance premiums, could put pressure on the territory’s finances if enacted at the same time.
He said he had met the previous week with the Government Employees Service Commission Board and that, with consulting partner the Gehring Group, the board planned to complete a study by December 2025 on a transition to a self-funded health-insurance system.
