Bryan administration backed $5 million measure for St. Croix racetrack repairs
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. announced on Oct. 3, 2025, that his administration supported legislation to authorize $5 million in Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation funding for renovations at the Randall “Doc” James Racetrack on St. Croix.
According to Government House, the Legislature was scheduled to consider the measure on Oct. 7, 2025.
The proposed funding would be used to begin repairs to the racetrack’s running surface and paddock area, which the administration said were needed to restart horse racing on St. Croix.
Government House said the administration was seeking to move forward after racetrack agreements made in 2016 failed to produce the planned facilities and left horse racing on St. Croix inactive for nearly a decade.
Sports, Parks and Recreation Commissioner Vincent Roberts said his department was prepared to begin work once the measure was approved.
