Virgin Islands government made initial $2.5 million payment toward Pafford Medical Services arrears
The Virgin Islands government said on August 23, 2024, that it had made an initial $2.5 million payment to Pafford Medical Services toward arrears for emergency medical services.
According to Government House, the payment was appropriated by the Legislature through Act 8875. The administration said $2,111,507.10 of the payment covered services Pafford provided to the Caribbean Kidney Center from October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024, with the remainder covering services used by Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
Government House said Pafford had originally been contracted under emergency circumstances after Hurricanes Irma and Maria and during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The administration also said Schneider Regional Medical Center was expected to begin providing additional dialysis-related services in October 2024 and Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center in January 2025 as both hospitals expanded infrastructure and staffing.
