Bryan met with Trump and governors at White House on federal policy issues

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. met with President Donald Trump and other governors at the White House in Washington on Feb. 21, 2025, according to Government House.

Government House said the discussion included economic development, regulatory reform, education funding and public safety.

According to the statement, Bryan raised the restart of the oil refinery as an economic issue for the territory and called for streamlined federal regulations for large projects. He also said some federal regulatory processes delay infrastructure and economic initiatives.

On education, Bryan urged block grants of federal funds to the Virgin Islands Department of Education, saying the existing system includes administrative hurdles that limit flexibility in directing resources to students and schools.

On public safety, Government House said Bryan called for continued federal-local law enforcement cooperation, including efforts targeting people in the territory illegally and the flow of drugs, including fentanyl, into the Virgin Islands.
