Explosions were heard in the Iranian city of Bushehr and in the northeastern Golestan province, according to Iranian state media, as the US launched more strikes against Iran on Wednesday night local time.

Now early Thursday in the Middle East, Iran’s promised retaliation for US strikes appears to have begun, with sirens warning of an incoming threat sounding in both Bahrain and Kuwait, according to authorities.

But thus far, the US strikes — and similar Iranian strikes — have not matched the geographic scope and intensity of those conducted earlier in the war.

Here’s what else you should know:

President Donald Trump’s decision to move forward with more strikes against Iran today was due in part to his anger over the Strait of Hormuz not being fully open yet — and in part because Iran hit ships transiting the strait while he was attending a NATO summit, a US official familiar with the discussions told CNN.

After US Central Command announced earlier that the US had begun additional strikes against Iran, Trump warned on social media that the attacks would “get much worse” if Iranian forces continued targeting ships in the strait. On his way back to Washington from the NATO summit, Trump also told reporters that Iran “called a little while ago, they want to make a deal so badly.”

Most recently, Iran’s ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, condemned the latest spate of US strikes, calling them “a clear violation of the United States Charter and its international obligations, launched and continues to carry out large-scale military attacks against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

As the US launched more airstrikes against Iran, the country’s southern port city of Chabahar was hit by power cuts, according to Iranian state media. And a hospital in Chabahar was struck by fragments from the strikes, according to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB.

A firefighter was killed in a US attack on Iranshahr Airport in southeastern Iran, Iranian state media said. The attack also damaged the airport’s flight operations building and meteorological station, according to reports from IRNA and the Mehr News Agency.

Trump also said Wednesday that whether the US will pull more troops out of Europe will “depend on Greenland” but did not provide specifics. During this week’s NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, he reiterated his desire for the territory but implied he knew it would cause problems for his relationship with the alliance.
