Roach Cites Senior Nutrition Program, Vessel Removal and Insurance Accreditation at Dec. 23 Briefing

Lt. Gov. Tregenza A. Roach led a government press briefing on Dec. 23 and outlined several 2024 initiatives and accomplishments, including a senior nutrition program, planned removal of storm-damaged vessels and accreditation for the Virgin Islands Division of Banking, Insurance, and Financial Regulation.

Roach said the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program provided fresh produce to nearly 800 eligible seniors on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John.

He also said a contract had been executed for the removal of derelict vessels linked to Tropical Storm Ernesto, with work set to begin in early January near Elysian Resort and proceed westward. According to the briefing, the Department of Planning and Natural Resources was working with the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority on the removal effort.

Roach said the National Association of Insurance Commissioners had accredited the Virgin Islands Division of Banking, Insurance, and Financial Regulation at its fall national meeting. He said the review examined financial solvency laws, financial analysis capabilities, organizational practices and licensing procedures.

At the briefing, Roach also said the Office of the Lieutenant Governor's street addressing initiative had completed mapping on St. John and installed backlit signs on highways and major roads. He said the project was being carried out by the Division of Geospatial Information Systems.
