Bryan grants administrative leave for non-essential government employees on Jan. 9 for Carter mourning day

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. announced on Jan. 8 that non-essential Virgin Islands government employees would receive administrative leave on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, in observance of the National Day of Mourning for former President Jimmy Carter.

Essential government employees were expected to report to work as scheduled, according to Government House.

Bryan also said he would be out of the territory from Jan. 8 through Jan. 10 to attend Carter's state funeral at the invitation of President Joe Biden.

During that period, Finance Commissioner Kevin McCurdy was designated acting governor, and Senate President Novelle E. Francis Jr. was designated acting lieutenant governor because Lt. Gov. Tregenza A. Roach would also be out of the territory, the statement said.
