Division of Personnel launches ethics workshop for government attorneys

The Virgin Islands Division of Personnel launched its “Integrity in Action” ethics workshop on August 27, 2024, beginning with a train-the-trainer session for 13 attorneys from government agencies.

Government House said Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. and Lt. Gov. Tregenza Roach attended the launch event and delivered brief remarks.

The four-hour workshop was led by Aliya Felix, legal counsel for the Division of Personnel. According to the administration, the session prepared attorneys to lead ethics training within their agencies as part of a four-phase rollout for government employees.

Government House said participating attorneys came from the Office of the Governor, the Office of the Lt. Governor, the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, the Department of Labor, the Bureau of Internal Revenue, the Office of Collective Bargaining, and the Department of Property and Procurement.

Topics covered included the definition of ethics, the Virgin Islands government code of conduct, use of government resources, conflicts of interest, ethical decision-making, confidentiality and data protection. The workshop also included scenarios tailored to government operations, according to the release.
