The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on October 26, 2024, that customers in the St. Thomas-St. John district could experience service interruptions on October 27 between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. during commissioning tests for Phase 2 Wärtsilä engines.

WAPA said contractors from Wärtsilä were scheduled to carry out the tests and that no feeder was expected to be without service for more than two hours.

According to the notice, the testing required the existing Wärtsilä Phase 1 engines to go offline temporarily, while the Phase 2 engines would also be taken offline for emergency shutdown tests. WAPA said the reduced generation capacity during that period could lead to brief outages in some areas.
