Bryan issued statement marking 108th anniversary of Transfer Day

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a statement on March 30, 2025, commemorating the 108th anniversary of Transfer Day.

In the statement, Bryan said March 31, 1917, marked the transfer of sovereignty over the Virgin Islands from Denmark to the United States and described the date as a milestone in the territory’s history.

He also said the anniversary came as Virgin Islands History Month concluded and referenced the territory’s history of colonial transition, self-governance, citizenship and political rights.
