The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on October 9, 2024, that it had completed a three-day in-house training session on gas turbine operations for 10 plant operators and staff at the Randolph Harley Power Plant on St. Thomas.
WAPA said the session was led by Cyril Andrew, an Electrical Engineer III in data and auto electrical, and included second-class operators, trainees and instrument engineers.
According to the authority, the training covered the turbine combustion process, including fuel atomizing air and the igniter, as well as auxiliary systems such as the hydraulic system and propane and diesel delivery systems. WAPA said hazardous gas detectors and flame detectors were also included.
The authority said the training combined classroom instruction with hands-on work focused on turbine operations and safety protocols.
