Bryan spoke at sustainable island summit in Nevis on U.S. Virgin Islands energy projects

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. participated in the Global Sustainable Island Summit in Nevis and delivered remarks on Friday, May 30, 2025, about renewable energy, infrastructure and regional cooperation in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

In his address, Bryan said the territory had received more than $23 billion in federal support, including $2 billion for energy transformation. He also highlighted a 115-megawatt solar and battery storage initiative with VI Electron, describing it as a public-private partnership aimed at expanding renewable energy at lower cost and with greater reliability.

Bryan appeared at the summit alongside Nevis Premier Mark Brantley, who presented Nevis's geothermal energy project intended to supply power to Nevis and St. Kitts. Bryan said Caribbean islands should pursue regional collaboration and specialization in areas including disaster response, energy, agriculture and construction.

He also said small island territories face distinct sustainability pressures and urged leaders to use efficiencies between government and private-sector operations to help attract financing and investment.
