Bryan met with aquaculture group on fish-farming proposal for U.S. Virgin Islands
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. met with representatives of Caribbean Sustainable Aquaculture on September 28, 2024, to discuss a proposal to introduce fish farming in the U.S. Virgin Islands, according to Government House.
The discussion covered fish farming methods that would raise fish in inland nurseries before moving them to offshore cages submerged about 150 to 200 feet, with monitoring and feeding handled from a surface vessel.
Government House said Caribbean Sustainable Aquaculture would provide technical expertise, training and support for the project. The release said the group had identified potential offshore sites on St. Croix and begun initial discussions with fishermen.
The administration said the project was expected to roll out in phases, with possible expansion across the territory later.
