Official details

What

This level of heat affects most individuals sensitive to heat, especially those without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration.

Where

In Puerto Rico, Culebra and Vieques. In U.S. Virgin Islands, St Croix and St. Thomas, St. John, and Adjacent Islands.

When

From 10 AM this morning to 5 PM AST this afternoon.

Impacts

High temperatures or elevated heat indices can worsen symptoms in people with chronic conditions. They can also increase the risk of heat-related illness among individuals sensitive to heat with inadequate cooling or hydration. These risks are highest across coastal areas, lowlands, interior valleys, and urban zones.

Additional details

High concentrations of Saharan Dust will also be present today, resulting in hazy skies, reduced visibilities and deteriorated air quality.

Safety instructions

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
