The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said an incident at the Randolph Harley Power Plant on St. Thomas on May 13, 2025 involved the unplanned atmospheric venting of liquefied petroleum gas during routine maintenance on the Wartsila Phase II units.

WAPA said the venting occurred through a designated vent used before maintenance of fuel lines. After security personnel observed a visible vapor plume in the venting area, the plant was temporarily evacuated under standard safety protocols.

The authority said the plant was cleared for reentry within 20 minutes. It said the venting was momentary, no injuries were reported, and electrical service was not disrupted.
