Bryan convenes first meeting of Virgin Islands Commission on Aging
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. convened the first meeting of the Virgin Islands Commission on Aging on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, according to Government House.
The meeting marked the commission’s official launch. Members began work on finalizing and approving bylaws and selected interim officers.
The commission approved Troy de Chabert-Schuster, state director of AARP Virgin Islands, as interim chair. Michal Rhymer-Browne, a former Human Services assistant commissioner and associate pastor at Zion Outreach and Evangelical Ministries Church, was elected acting vice chair. Senator-at-Large Angel Bolques was elected secretary.
Government House said Bryan directed the commission to develop a budget and outline initiatives including digital literacy workshops and electronic device giveaways for seniors.
In remarks at the meeting, Bryan said the commission would make recommendations on services and help advocate for resources for the territory’s aging population.
