Bryan proclaims July 8-14 as French Heritage Week and July 14 as Bastille Day in U.S. Virgin Islands

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. proclaimed July 8 through July 14, 2025, as French Heritage Week and July 14, 2025, as Bastille Day in the U.S. Virgin Islands, according to a Government House announcement published July 9, 2025.

The proclamation recognized the contributions of the French community in the territory, including residents whose families came from Guadeloupe, St. Barts and St. Martin.

Government House said the observance is centered primarily on St. Thomas. It said a featured event during the week is the Northside Sportfishing Club’s annual Bastille Day Kingfish Tournament at Hull Bay.

The proclamation also marked Bastille Day, which commemorates the storming of the Bastille in Paris on July 14, 1789, an event associated with the start of the French Revolution.
