Bryan announced bill for St. Croix-St. Thomas ferry service and Veterans Drive funding

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said during a Government House press briefing on Nov. 12, 2024, that he was proposing legislation to authorize $76 million in Grant Anticipation Revenue Bonds for transportation projects, including a ferry service between St. Croix and St. Thomas and the next phase of the Veterans Drive project.

According to Government House, the proposal included about $20 million for the ferry project and $28 million for road and infrastructure work on St. Croix.

Bryan also announced the nomination of acting Police Commissioner Mario Brooks to serve as police commissioner.

During the briefing, Bryan said Veterans Day events on St. John, St. Thomas and St. Croix had been canceled because of weather conditions. He also offered condolences to the families of Virgin Islands Police Department Officer Janlee Cruz and Walton "Selah" Macedon.

Government House said nearly 1,943 residents were to receive about $5 million in tax refunds during the week of Nov. 12, 2024.

Bryan also said government employees would receive administrative leave on Friday, Nov. 29, 2024, and that the postponed Liberty Day event had been rescheduled for Nov. 23, 2024.
