The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on January 12, 2026, that a crew of linemen and safety personnel departed the U.S. Virgin Islands for Jamaica to assist with power restoration and electrical system repairs after Hurricane Melissa.

WAPA said the team, drawn from its St. Croix and St. Thomas-St. John districts, left from Henry E. Rohlsen Airport and Cyril E. King Airport on January 12, 2026, and was scheduled to meet in Miami before continuing to Jamaica. The authority said the crew was expected to spend about one month there.

According to WAPA, the crew was to help repair damaged electrical infrastructure, including replacing poles and transformers, restoring power lines, and carrying out climbing and repair work in areas with limited bucket-truck access.
