Hogensborg Solar Farm Commissioned on St. Croix
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. joined the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority and project partners on June 13, 2025, for the ribbon-cutting and commissioning of the Hogensborg Solar Farm on St. Croix.
Government House said the facility, located in Estate Hogensborg, is the largest utility-scale solar installation in the U.S. Virgin Islands. It includes 48,210 solar panels and can generate up to 22.4 megawatts of electricity.
The project also includes a battery energy storage system designed by Honeywell to store excess solar energy and support grid reliability when sunlight is limited. Government House said the solar farm was developed by VIElectron, is owned by VIRAPC, and is WAPA’s fourth utility-scale renewable energy project.
The administration said the project is part of broader efforts to expand renewable energy production and reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels.
