Bryan sought emergency Senate meeting on proposed BVI tariffs and travel fees

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. requested an emergency meeting with the Virgin Islands Legislature to discuss proposed tariffs on goods imported from the British Virgin Islands and proposed entry and exit fees for non-Virgin Islanders traveling between the two territories, according to a Government House statement published Feb. 20, 2025.

In a letter to Senate President Milton Potter, Bryan said the Legislature should address the proposals as soon as possible. Government House said the proposed tariffs could be set at 25% or higher, and that the travel fees would apply to non-residents entering or departing the U.S. Virgin Islands via the British Virgin Islands.

Government House said the administration planned to provide data and impact assessments for the Legislature's review.
