The 2026 World Cup favorite looked the part on Thursday, July 2 inside SoFi Stadium, cruising past Austria for a 3-0 win in the round of 32 to advance in the knockout round.

It was a result that was never in doubt, with Spain controlling the game from the opening kick off and forcing Austria to do all it can to stop it. After several close chances, Mikel Oyarzabal finally broke through for La Roja with a goal in the 36th minute, and Pedro Porro added to the lead in the 66th minute. Just before the 90th minute, Oyarzabal scored again to cap off the perfect day for the Spaniards.

Spain’s defense again put the clamps on the opposition with another clean sheet, still yet to give up a goal in the tournament. It now returns to the round of 16 for the third consecutive tournament, where it awaits the winner of Portugal and Croatia.
