Bryan issues statement on death of former Tourism director Leona Bryant
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a statement on December 30, 2024, mourning the death of Leona Bryant, a former director of the Virgin Islands Department of Tourism and a radio personality.
In the statement, Bryan said Bryant was the first Virgin Islander, woman and Black person to serve as tourism director. He also said she began her career welcoming cruise ship visitors into her Garden Street home, later hosted the radio show "Leona," collaborated with Vogue International and supported Virgin Islands steel bands after Hurricane Hugo.
Bryan extended condolences to Bryant's family, including her daughters, grandchildren and Commissioner of Tourism Joseph Boschulte, whom he identified as one of her grandchildren.
