Bryan nominates Melanie L. Turnbull to Superior Court Family Division judgeship
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. announced on October 15, 2025, that he had nominated St. Thomas attorney Melanie L. Turnbull to serve as a judge of the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands, Family Division, for the St. Thomas-St. John District.
Government House said the nomination was transmitted to the 36th Legislature for advice and consent under Title 4, Chapter 5, Section 72 of the Virgin Islands Code.
Turnbull had served as an assistant federal public defender for the District of the Virgin Islands since 2018. According to Government House, she previously worked as an assistant territorial public defender beginning in 2015 and earlier clerked at the Supreme Court of the Virgin Islands for Justice Ive A. Swan.
Government House said Turnbull earned a law degree from Campbell University’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology from Hampton University. It said she is a member of the Virginia State Bar and the U.S. Virgin Islands Bar.
