Bryan issues proclamations for October 2025 observances in the Virgin Islands

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued proclamations recognizing several days, weeks and monthlong observances in October 2025 in the U.S. Virgin Islands, according to Government House.

The proclamations designated Oct. 1 as Contract Day, marking 147 years since the 1878 Fireburn Uprising on St. Croix; Oct. 13 as both Virgin Islands-Puerto Rico Friendship Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day; Oct. 15 as White Cane Safety Day; and Oct. 29 as Buckle Up Phone Down Day.

Bryan also proclaimed Oct. 5 through Oct. 11 as Fire Prevention Week and Oct. 19 through Oct. 25 as Virgin Islands Taxi Week.

For monthlong observances, the proclamations recognized October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, National Disability Employment Awareness Month and Rett Syndrome Awareness Month.

Government House said Bryan also issued a proclamation in advance recognizing World Heart Day on Sept. 29, 2025.
