Acting governor ordered public schools and nonessential government offices closed Sept. 24 because of tropical wave threat
Acting Gov. Tregenza A. Roach announced on Sept. 23, 2025, that all public schools in the St. Thomas-St. John and St. Croix districts would close on Wednesday, Sept. 24, along with central government offices and all nonessential and non-emergency operations.
Government House said the closures were ordered because of forecast inclement weather associated with tropical wave AL 94.
Officials said agencies would conduct assessments throughout Sept. 24 to evaluate any effects on public infrastructure, schools and communities. Government House also said officials were monitoring another weather system in the region and planned to issue further updates as information became available from the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency, the National Weather Service and other emergency partners.
Residents were advised to remain off the roads as much as possible on Sept. 24.
