Bryan, LEPC director host Virgin Islands criminal justice stakeholders meeting on St. Croix

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. and Virgin Islands Law Enforcement Planning Commission Director Moleto A. Smith Jr. hosted the territory’s first Tri-Annual Virgin Islands Criminal Justice Stakeholders Meeting on July 9, 2024, at Government House on St. Croix.

Government House said the meeting brought together heads of sectors across the territory’s criminal justice system. It said discussions focused on collaboration to address gaps in the system, improve criminal justice data collection and use, and connect agencies with resources for current and future initiatives.

Attendees included Lt. Gov. Tregenza Roach, LEPC staff, and representatives of the Virgin Islands Judiciary, Attorney General’s Office, Office of the Virgin Islands Public Defender, Police Department, Office of Gun Violence Prevention, the Virgin Islands Juvenile Justice State Advisory Group Board, Peace Officers Standards and Training, University of the Virgin Islands CELL and Eastern Caribbean Center, Department of Health, Department of Education, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of the Virgin Islands.

Government House said participants also discussed next steps, including subcommittees on data, strategic planning and resources. It said the stakeholders meetings are scheduled to convene three times a year.
