The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on January 29, 2025, that contractor Haugland VI was scheduled to begin staging materials and mobilizing on February 3 for the Feeder 5A underground electrical project on St. Thomas.

WAPA said the project would convert Feeder 5A from an overhead distribution line to an underground system. Physical construction was scheduled to begin on February 17, 2025, with substantial completion anticipated by November 2025.

WAPA identified affected facilities and areas as the Cyril E. King Airport beacon, Water Island, FAA facilities, Emerald Beach Beachcomber, the WAPA fuel dock, WAPA tanks and the WAPA LPG facility.

The authority said some phases of the work could cause occasional electrical service disruptions. It also said traffic notices and traffic-control plans would be issued before any roadway disruptions in affected areas.
