The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on October 11, 2024, that it expanded a tree-pruning training initiative for linemen in collaboration with UVI CELL.
According to the archived release, the workshop covered tree biology, pruning basics, pruning equipment, pruning mature trees, situations that require pruning, and proper pruning cuts. Participants also received hands-on instruction in tree-pruning techniques.
WAPA said the initiative followed earlier sessions with certified arborists and was expected to expand to lineworkers on St. Thomas and St. John in the weeks after October 11, 2024. The authority also said it was exploring more intensive training in tree management.
