The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on Aug. 13, 2024, that line crews and other essential employees were preparing electrical and water systems as Tropical Storm Ernesto approached the territory.

WAPA said it intended to maintain electric service as long as conditions remained safe, with crews across divisions on standby to respond to problems and take steps to protect the power grid and water systems during the storm.
