Bryan amended holiday administrative leave schedule for 2025-26 observances

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a proclamation on December 22, 2025, amending the administrative leave schedule for the 2025-26 Christmas and New Year holiday period in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The proclamation authorized commissioners and agency heads to grant territory-wide administrative leave on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The source statement said the change followed a U.S. presidential executive order issued on Thursday declaring Christmas Eve and December 26 federal holidays for 2025.

The proclamation kept the territory's legal holidays unchanged: Christmas Day on Thursday, December 25, 2025; Christmas Second Day on Friday, December 26, 2025; New Year’s Day on Thursday, January 1, 2026; and Three Kings’ Day on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.

It also listed previously scheduled administrative leave periods of Friday, January 2, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. territory-wide; Wednesday, December 31, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on St. Croix; and Wednesday, December 31, 2025, from noon to 5 p.m. on St. Thomas and St. John.

The administrative leave did not apply to essential employees, employees on regular or rotating shifts, or employees on annual or sick leave. Agencies were directed to maintain essential services during the leave periods.
