Fresh Ministries transferred aquaponics facility to UVI on St. Croix
Fresh Ministries formally transferred its aquaponics farm facilities to the University of the Virgin Islands on June 3 at the Bethlehem Sugar Factory restoration site on St. Croix, according to Government House.
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. attended the event with Fresh Ministries Executive Director the Rev. Dr. Robert Vernon Lee and UVI President Safiya George.
Government House said UVI will manage the facility. The university’s School of Agriculture, led by Dean and Director Usman Adamu, said it is rebuilding aquaponics infrastructure damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017 and is developing bachelor’s, associate and certificate programs in aquaponics, aquaculture and horticulture.
The facility had operated as the Island Fresh Aquaponics project, launched by Fresh Ministries.
