Bryan approved 16 bills, vetoed three after Legislature’s June 24 session
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. acted on 19 bills passed by the 35th Legislature at its June 24, 2024 session, approving 16 measures and vetoing three, according to a Government House statement published July 11, 2024. He also acknowledged the Legislature’s confirmation of two members to the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority board.
Bryan approved Bill No. 35-0078, which established fish and fungi as the official dish of the Virgin Islands and tart as the official dessert, and Bill No. 35-0117, which addressed the composition, qualifications, terms and compensation of members of the Real Estate Commission.
He vetoed Bill No. 35-0193, relating to real estate brokers, sales associates and property managers; Bill No. 35-0215, relating to handgun training and the term of firearm licensure; and Bill No. 35-0236, which would have enacted the "21st Century Integrated Digital Experience Act" concerning government digital services.
Bryan also approved Bill No. 35-0230 on the inspection and licensing of automobiles for hire, Bill No. 35-0291 appropriating $3 million from the General Fund to the Department of Human Services for Medicaid providers and vendors, and Bill No. 35-0293 requiring the government to submit a fiscal year 2024 budget reduction plan.
The statement said Bryan approved zoning measures Bill Nos. 35-0137, 35-0241, 35-0244, 35-0256 and 35-0260, as well as lease measures Bill Nos. 35-0255, 35-0261, 35-0263, 35-0264 and 35-0265.
He also approved Bill No. 35-0030, which honored Vaughn Benjamin posthumously, appropriated $45,000 to the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation for the design and construction of the Vaughn Benjamin Monument, and named a waterfront park west of Marley Homes as The Vaughn "Akae Beka" Memorial Park.
Bryan acknowledged the Legislature’s override of the veto of Bill No. 35-0115, now Act No. 8838.
The statement also said the 35th Legislature confirmed Lindel A. Williams of St. Croix and Conn J. Davis II of St. Thomas to the Waste Management Authority Board of Directors.
