Government House briefing outlines road work, EV agreement and online tax filing launch
Government House said on February 3, 2025, that the East Airport Road Bridge on St. Croix had reopened and that work was set to begin on the rehabilitation of Ethel McIntosh Memorial Drive, also known as Mahogany Road.
According to the administration, Marco St. Croix was awarded a $17.75 million contract for the Mahogany Road project, which is being funded by GARVEE bonds. The work is to include resurfacing, drainage improvements and other upgrades.
Officials also said the government had signed a letter of intent with TJ Ocean Auto and Metro Motors to expand access to electric vehicles and establish local service facilities. The initiative is supported by federal funding secured through the Virgin Islands Energy Office, according to Government House.
The Virgin Islands Bureau of Internal Revenue also launched VI Quick File, an online portal for filing income taxes. Government House said the system allows taxpayers to upload completed 2024 individual income tax returns, submit extension requests electronically and make payments online.
At the start of the February 3 briefing, Government House Communications Director Richard Motta Jr. also noted the observance of Black History Month.
